Oh what a weekend….

From birthday party shenanigans, to happy hour with best friends, to a day party of fanny packs and waterslides, it was definitely a fun-filled weekend. Here’s a little glimpse at it all in pictures….

I’m obsessing over easy maxi dresses with a contrasting accessory, and these colors are TO DIE!

I can’t ever get enough of an easy top with white jeans and my gold sandals from Old Navy…oh, and my Forever21 clutch. The perfect combination for happy hour!

Okay so maybe not my best look, but I had to show ya’ll my Saturday outfit. Don’t ya think it’s fanny pack-tastic? I’m never opposed to bringing back a 90s staple. I forgot how convenient these suckers are!

And what do you think my week has in store for me?

Well, other than this….

I’m gonna make some time for a little bit of DIY too…

I may or may not have gone a little crazy in the fabrics section of Hobby Lobby. Who can’t pass up cheap swatches?! (Pinterest has created a monster, ladies and gentlemen.)

Happy Sunday!

She’s baaaaackkk (que applause)

Okay so I’ve been completely and utterly MIA. If you’ve seen my Twitter and Facebook at all, you’d know how busy I’ve been since I’ve gotten back to school. From moving back into my house, to FINALLY getting some R&R by the pool, to rush, to more rush, and starting school, my life has been a teensy bit hectic. But no worries, I’m back and ready to blog! After all, with a hoarse voice and an achy body, there’s not much more I can do than lay on the couch with my laptop.

Ohhh what a terrible way to spend my time…tehehe

Anyway, wanna see a little somethin’ I crafted all by myself??? I didn’t even use Pinterest for this one. As I was perusing the aisles at my local Goodwill, I found this sucker….

Doesn’t look like much, eh? Well……

Step1: Spray paint the frame with a shiny color.

Step 2: Spray paint the cardboard backing with the color of choice (I chose the main color in my bedspread).

Step 3: Turn frame over and glue the edges of the lace to the back.

And…VOILA! You’ve got yourself a good-lookin’ jewelry holder for under 5 bucks.

That’s simple, shabby, and chic if you ask me!

I decided to use clear tacks to hold the bracelets. I’m pretty proud of my creative spirit! It didn’t take much time and didn’t hurt my bank account either. Total win-win!

Wanna see another gem I found at Goodwill?

Not too shabby for under a buck!

Happy Wednesday, ya’ll! I promise that I won’t disappear ever again 🙂

Any Reason is a Good Reason for a Cocktail Party

Happy Monday everyone!

I hope you had a GREAT weekend. I definitely did. Although mine was super busy and I didn’t get much sleep, I’m feeling pretty good today. I’ve been going going GOING since Friday AM. From work, to Americas Mart in DT Atlanta, to Athens, to work again, to going out in VaHi on Saturday night, then a wonderful mani/pedi at Sugarcoat, and topping it all off with a cocktail party last night….I’m ready for a little break from social hour!

(Who am I kidding…I love it.)

But don’t worry, I still found time to do a little bit of discount shopping.

My mom (Cissy) decided to host a cocktail party for the girls of my family to celebrate my future sister-in-law! As much as Cissy loves to plan a party, she gets a little worked up when the final details are coming together. In the midst of my mom’s hectic Sunday afternoon, my sister and I decided to dodge the bullet and stop by Urban Outfitters on the way home from our relaxing spa day (sorry, Mom). And let me tell you, UO did not hold out on us! Their sale area was PHENOM. I walked into the dressing room with about 25 things…no joke. Luckily, I only came out of the store with 2 of those items (my self-control kicked in). And among Jane’s purchases was a maxi skirt that I originally wanted….which is fine, because I’m not opposed to borrowing…or stealing.

Needless to say, we were feeling pretty good about our successful “discount diva” trip. So for the infamous party that evening, I couldn’t wait to wear my new crocheted coral top! Of course, Jane opted for a UO dress from a few years back…just another gem from the sale rack.

We clearly can’t take a serious picture to save our lives…

But I loved putting Cissy’s blue cropped jeans with the new sweater. I’m all about a good color contrast. The jeans are from the UO sale rack as well…are you surprised? Like mother, like daughters.

And check out my arm candy. Can’t see it? Don’t worry…I got a close-up picture for ya.

(from Golden Stella)

And there’s more where that came from. Stay tuned!

If you’re interested, Cissy’s cocktail party was a huge success. She freaked out for nothing (I have no room to talk…I do the same thing) and everyone had a great time. Since we’re all girly girls, we can’t wait for the wedding festivities to officially begin! Congratulations again to my future sister-in-law, Kayla! She’s a discount diva herself. Maybe I’ll feature her sometime soon 🙂

Channeling my inner Audrey

is, by far, one of the most influential fashion gurus in my life. Even before cigarette pants were trendy, I have always loved a good simple top, skinny trousers, and flats ensemble.

So, for my inaugural “Who What Wear Wednesday” post, I thought it was only appropriate to feature one of my favorite fashionable women of all time. Audrey’s signature look is known all over the world, and she is definitely famous for her fabulous sense of style. But, I think that she has been even more influential through her words and actions.

If you check out my Pinterest, you will see many of Audrey’s pictures and quotes on there. Some are lighthearted, others are a funny take on life, and many are very powerful. Through her humanitarian legacy, Audrey has managed to encourage women to be strong and confident, as well as beautiful from the inside out. Which I think is the most important aspect of being a fashionista.

Here are a few of my personal favorite quotes from Audrey…

Is it through your wardrobe or your actions? I hope to someday be half the person that Audrey was…until then, I love my Audrey-inspired ensembles.

Top: BDG White V-Neck Tee from Urban Outfitters (similar); Bottoms: BDG Cigarette Black Jeans, Leopard Scarf (similar), Christian Louboutin Royal Blue Flats (look for less and even less); Gold jewelry (shocker, I know).

I’ll tell you what I want…what I really REALLY want

……an Hermes Birkin bag!

But who doesn’t? This might sound overly typical, and frankly, I’m not ashamed of that. One day, when I am hugely successful and I want to reward myself, I will get my very own Birkin.

(fingers crossed…yes, I dream big)

Until then, I’m fakin it.

So my boss and her sisters recently went to England to visit family (which just so happens to be the BF’s family). Luckily, they brought me back an amazing present! Honestly, I would’ve been pleased with a keychain saying “I love London” but that’s just because I’m a touristy loser and I love the little things in life. Of course, I was blown away by what they actually gave me.

I’ll start with the bag. Feast your eyes, ladies and gents.

She’s a beaut, isn’t she?

That’s a pretty darn good Birkin lookalike, don’t ya think? Gosh, I love her.

One thing you should know about me is when I really love something, I can’t stop looking at it. I always have to have that something in my peripheral vision, on my person, or in my presence. Needless to say, I immediately put my stuff in this bag and it hasn’t been empty since.

Thanks to the Atlanta Activewear girls and my fabulous bag…I’m another step closer to being just like the fashionable Spice Girl, Victoria Beckham.

Do you see the resemblance?? Maybe squint a little (tehehe).

A real Birkin is what I want…what I really really want.

But I’m feelin’ really really good with what I got for now.

There will be more blog posts about my presents from England to come soon! So stay tuned my friends.

I’ll be sure to Instagram a pic of my outfit later! I’ll totally be wearing the bag. Follow me @ emmafakesit and look for my #OOTD.

Happy 4th!

Minty Fresh

For some reason, I am a blue-colored girl through and through! I love a good royal blue, baby blue, teal, turquoise (of course), but my new-found love is definitely a minty blue. Some might argue that “mint” is considered a green. Well, I agree to an extent. The best thing about mint is that it comes in all different shades. I have a pair of mint shorts that seem to have more of a hint of green than blue. I’ll be sure to post them soon!

Well, I found this new mint/gray striped cardigan the other day and it couldn’t be more perfect! I’ve already worn it a couple of times and the compliments are endless. My favorite part about cardis is that you can wear them with any outfit and they seem to pull it all together, especially when they are a bold color. I thought the peach necklace complements the cardigan as well. What do you think??

Happy Wednesday!

Color the World

If there’s anything I love in life, vivid colors are definitely in my Top 5. Unfortunately, I don’t embrace this love as much as I should. To kick off the summer right, I splurged a little bit and made my way to Forever 21 and TJMaxx to stock up on some goodies.

On the first official day of Summer, I had a busy morning at my internship, then headed straight to work at Atlanta Activewear until 8pm and immediately went on a date with the BF. With this hectic schedule, I knew I needed to wear something light and breezy without being too revealing for the office. So, I sported my new purple, hi-lo dress from Forever. It’s definitely a good find, and it’s super comfy too! And of course, none of my outfits are complete without gold accents.

I decided to put my J.Crew gold belt with the dress in order to cut the color a little bit. I added my new tan woven clutch from Forever (one of my newest obsessions!) to add another element to the ensemble. The gold flower studs are from the Lauren Conrad Collection at Kohl’s (on sale for $7!!!). As for the arm candy, I stuck with my trusty Michael, David, and Kate trio. I thought the accessories were enough to accent the outfit, without overcoming it…

As much as I love Atlanta during the Summer, the heat can kill me sometimes. Lucky for me, I work at an activewear shop where I can pass off wearing spandex and lime green bras underneath see-through tops. I added my new Kelly green cardi from TJMaxx to the leggings/t-shirt combo. It’s light enough to wear in the hot sun, but essential in any overly-air conditioned building. I threw on my gold Alexis Bittar bracelet,Sam Edelman gladiators and chevron-printed Sweatyband and I was ready for the day! Fitness fashion at its finest.

Love, Emma

Pinterest: Making Everyone Crafty since 2010

If you’re anything like me, then you spend a TON of time browsing Pinterest, repinning yummy recipes and adorable crafts, but you never ACTUALLY do those things you obsess over. Well, I’ve begun to put a stop to the madness. Over the weekend, I was looking for something different to do on my days off of work. Of course, I went straight to my Pinterest app and began looking through my pins. Then suddenly it came to me….

I have never been a huge fan of jean shorts. I always thought they were too trendy, too common, and too short…or shorter than I prefer (as opposed to my beloved J. Crew Shorts found at the outlet…).

Well, I recently figured out that I thought all of these negative things because I hadn’t found some “jorts” that I actually liked. Since I am a girl who is usually more drawn to tailored clothing, I seem to completely turn away from any cut-offs or overly-distressed jean shorts.

With this mindset, and my obsession with Pinterest, I decided to change my opinion of the trend. After finding the perfect tutorial (here), and deciding on a pair of Joe’s Jeans that I’ve had for 2 years (I bought them half-off!), I was ready to cut these suckers.Since the Joe’s were already a good dark wash with a slightly distressed finish, I knew they would make amazing shorts. And, because of the higher waist and bootcut of the silhouette, I hadn’t worn them as much as I wish I had. All good reasons to make more use out of them!

I have to admit, I was pretty nervous about doing the actual cutting. As my stepmom watched over me to make sure I was cutting straight (I’m not the best at doing that), I created some of the best jean shorts I have ever seen, if I do say so myself.

Here are some of the steps….

First leg down…PHEW!

I had a little visitor…George wanted to help!

And VOILA! The perfect jorts for almost no money!

I had a lot of fun doing my first Pinterest-inspired project. I’m hoping that this first experience will create a lot more in the near future. So, stay tuned and….

Fake It Friday

For my very first Friday as an official blogger (yay!), I want to tell everyone about my favorite Fake It ’til You Make It story.

There’s close to nothing that I love more than my cross body bags. As a college girl, these snappy satchels are the most convenient way to store your money, ID, and lip gloss when you go anywhere. What more could you ask for?!

Over the years, my cross body bag collection has definitely expanded, but it didn’t start off as easily as it looks.

The summer before college, my boyfriend (Joseph) and I took a road trip to the Big Apple. I had never been before so I was super excited….especially about Chinatown! We made it there on our 3rd day in the city, and I was set on getting my hands on a “designer” bag. After walking through several shops and not finding anything that caught my eye, we were led into an upstairs attic which soon became a plethora of false brand name trinkets.

About 20 minutes went by and I decided on a black crossbody rendition of the classic quilted Chanel. I was ecstatic. The asking price was $40, but I didn’t want to settle on that. Thanks to the excellent finagling skills of my boyfriend, he got the price knocked halfway down and we were outta there. Hallelujah!

I can’t tell you how many times I wore that bag. I couldn’t take it off! A couple weeks later, I was off to college and I fit in perfectly with my “Chanel” purse.

This was back in my long hair/interesting style phase…

As expected, the life of my beloved bag came to an abrupt end when I was dancing a bit too outrageously at my very first pledge social (The theme song from Footloose was playing…I couldn’t resist myself from doing the signature dance from the movie!). The strap completely broke and I was devastated. My fake designer cross body bag was donzo.

But no fear! The next Christmas, Joseph surprised me with something even better than the Chanel lookalike (didn’t think it could happen!)….the Marc Jacobs Totally Turnlock Percy Crossbody Bag. I was OBSESSED (and I still am!). Black with gold hardware…my fave! This sucker definitely holds up through all of my awesome dance moves.

It’s a great bag for nights out and at Summer festivals with my friends!

It’s a go-to purse for me on game days too!

Three years later, this bag is still going strong! I sure did love that fake Chanel crossbody, but not as much as I love my Marc Jacobs. This proves that fakin’ it ’til you make it is totally worth it!

Have a great weekend!

Think Pink

For some reason, I always find myself buying neutral colors. My closet is full of blacks, whites, and grays. Yes, I have random spurts of color throughout, but not enough.

Luckily, I’ve admitted to my problem and I’m moving forward. The other day I decided to step out of my comfort zone of neutrals that I’ve nicknamed the Gray Cloud and I got a MAGENTA summer scarf from Atlanta Activewear.

Anyone who knows me, knows that I am totally and completely obsessed with my scarf collection–from wool scarves, to circle scarves, to pattern scarves…you name it, I got it! I don’t fool around when it comes to my pashminas.

I unveiled my newest addition yesterday and decided to pair the summer scarf with some neutrals (shocker, right?). The Vivante scarf worked perfectly with my Zara white jeans, S Tank by Bordeaux, and Steve Madden nude flats. I double-cuffed my jeans to add a little something extra to the bottom of my outfit.

No matter what I wear, I always have at least 2 pieces of gold jewelry on me—okay, it’s not all REAL gold, but it looks like it, right? My go-to gold necklace is the Signature Clover Necklace by Stella and Dot. My mom surprised me with this gem for Christmas after seeing me constantly wear gold necklaces from Forever 21.This was definitely an upgrade!

The ultimate goal for my golden collection is the Cartier Love Bracelet (I know…it’s amazing). But, until that dream comes true, I absolutely LOVE my gold bangle from Kate Spade. It’s simple, elegant, and it has an adorable inscription on the inside saying “As Good As Gold”. Looks like the real deal, huh? Plus, it pairs perfectly with my Michael Kors gold watch.

And I can’t get enough of my Deepa Gurnani headband–it matches everything and adds a little sparkle to my blonde ‘do.

So if you’re stuck in the Gray Cloud, too, definitely consider thinking pink! It adds an extra level of spunk to any outfit.
